For months now, Canadians, as well as the rest of the world, have been subjected to the madness that is the U.S. Presidential Election. Scandal after scandal has rocked the United States, and while it may have been amusing for a time, things are starting to become serious, as U.S. citizens finally come to terms with the fact that their candidates aren’t running as a joke. Americans need to start asking themselves, who do they really want as their president? Which candidate is more qualified for the job and ready to start bettering a country that needs so much help?
Election time is around the corner, and U.S. citizens need to start getting answers to these important questions. For many Americans, voting in this upcoming election is going to be like voting in The Hunger Games: should they vote for President Snow or President Coin? Both leave an unsatisfying taste in the mouth of America.
Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, has been compared to Hitler on numerous occasions. With his crass remarks and unconcealed hatred for American minorities, his claims of “making America great again”, don’t entirely make sense to many, especially considering his stances on some key issues.
In his mind, climate change is a corporate hoax and the United States needs to do more to use its natural gas and coal reserves. Donald Trump believes that after giving birth, women only need six weeks of paid leave before returning to work, and the best way to keep illegal immigrants out of America is to construct a physical wall between the United States and Mexico.
While Donald Trump may not be the most agreeable at times, he is an incredibly successful businessman. He took over his father’s real estate business at a young age and turned it into a multi-billion dollar corporation. These are skills that may come in handy, as America has such a substantial amount of debt.
Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee, has a long history in politics. She was the Secretary of State, a member of the U.S. Senate and her husband previously served as the President of the United States for two terms. But experience isn’t the only thing that counts.
Hillary Clinton often changes her mind on policies she says she wants to implement if she gets elected. Her opinions often become influenced by her voters. Prior to announcing her candidacy, she stated that she was a strong proponent of free trade, but as soon as her voters started rejecting the idea, she conveniently began stating that she no longer supported it. Hillary Clinton can’t seem to make up her mind.
Even though Hillary Clinton changes stances frequently, when she does make up her mind, she has a set plan for how she plans to better America, which is more than you can say for Donald Trump who merely has a vision.
So, what will it be America? Time is drawing near for you to cast your vote. Which candidate has earned yours? It’s your choice to make, and for your sake, I hope you make a good one.
