On October 6th, the Jaguars’ field hockey team won their first game of the season against Chat at the Hanger. Approximately 15 minutes into the first half, Melody Shehata scored her first goal, lifting huge pressure off the rest of the team, particularly for Mr.Verre, who seemed to be taking the past two games extremely harshly. The girls did not stop there, however: “I told the team to play like the score remained 0-0, I wanted to ensure this win was ours,” said Catherine O’Brien. Sure enough, Erica Panes soon tipped the scale by scoring yet another goal at the start of second half, securing the win for St. Joseph’s. In the midst of it all was none other than the current field hockey captain, Emily Visconti. Announced MVP immediately subsequent to the game, she kept the girls’ spirits high and never lost hope. “She is the glue that constantly holds the team together. Everywhere I look, there she is, rushing to make another miraculous save,” said Megan Calaor. It is without a doubt, that the positive mind set of the team, is what allowed them to overcome the several challenges faced on the field. Overall, it was a victorious win for the Jaguars, and it is safe to anticipate several more wins to come.
