With the beginning of a new school year, our executive student council wanted to kick off the first month right with some additions to SJMP. To start this year off tremendously, they moved Spirit Week to the beginning of the year versus just having one near the end. Along with this new addition, they changed up this fun filled week by creating a class bingo event on Monday and served delicious treats on Tuesday. On Wednesday, students were given the opportunity to wear any sweater of their choice and participated in the annual Terry Fox run on Thursday. Lastly, we ended this week with our annual opening assembly filled with skits and performances created by the many clubs and ministries presiding at this school. For many of our returning students, this event could best be described as an appealing experience that uplifted their spirits for a great start to the school year. On the other hand, it gave our new students a different taste of our school community and allowed them to see that SJMP is a comfortable and welcoming environment. It also gave them the opportunity to witness a bit of our school's motto in action and hopefully show them that this school is much more than academics and sports, but a place to explore and enjoy yourself, and experience things many may have not experienced in a school environment. On a personal level, I believe that even though this was something new to the members of the student body, it brought students together and gave them a taste of what our new executive council has to offer for an astounding school year. Therefore, I could definitely say that this Spirit Week was an overall success and could be a part of a new SJMP tradition for years to come.
